Level 3 Engineering Fitter Apprenticeship – Job Criteria

The Engineering Fitter apprenticeship provides opportunities for an apprentice to produce complex high-value, low-volume components or assemblies in full part. For example, this could be assembling assets for turbines, cranes, gearboxes, production lines, rigs, and platforms. As a fitter, you may be required to interpret drawings/specifications and plan work, therefore, ensuring you have the right tools, equipment and resources to complete the task to the required specification.

Fitters may typically have a mechanical, electrical, electronic, control systems, pipe fitting or instrumentation bias or operate across multiple disciplines depending on the type of assembly. You must have a good eye to check your work against quality standards and make adjustments as required based on your knowledge. As an engineering fitter, you may be based in a workshop or client’s premises depending on the work involved this may include hazardous environments, therefore, you must be a reliable and sensible person. Day to day you will interact with line managers/ supervisors as part of a team however this will depend on the nature of work and you may be required to work alone. Cross hybrid working is essential in the industry as you will work in other functions, for example, installation and maintenance engineers, health & safety and quality assurance personnel, as well as internal or external customers.

You will be responsible to check your completed work against the required specification and deadlines, in line with quality, health & safety, environmental regulations and requirements, with minimum supervision. Therefore, a self-driven individual with an eye for detail is essential!
