What are the benefits of an Apprenticeship?

Starting a career can be a scary thing after secondary school. You are thrown into the big wide world and will take you out of your comfort zone.

Changing careers can also be a tough thing. There are so many options out there and the barrier to entry for some careers can be tough for someone who is young or lacks experience.

University for many is somewhat not attainable for a number of reasons. Others are just not fit for university or have the urge to go, which is not an issue. Our economy works in numerous ways and allows us to not always rely on a degree or school grades to succeed in life.

If you are resonating with the above and are due to finish school or are looking for a new career, then this guide is just for you. Read on to find out why choosing an apprenticeship could be your next big move into the life of full time employment!

Education becomes rewarding and exciting when choosing an apprenticeship

 Anyone can do an apprenticeship

Apprenticeships can be completed by anyone of any age. There is a general notion that apprenticeships are for school leavers. This is not the case as anyone of any age can become an apprentice.

Much like how university degrees have panned out over the past decade anyone can do one at any point in their life. People change their career paths for a multitude of reasons and change the course of their life.

As long as you have a solid understanding of basic English and Maths then you are applicable to apply for an apprenticeship.

Many apprenticeships since the Pandemic are also done remotely which means you do not need to commute to a college. Professional work completed can also be done so remotely.

A win, win!

Learn while you work

Another appealing aspect of choosing an apprenticeship is the fact you are able to learn a new skill and develop career prospects whilst also earning a wage.

Going to university for example can be an expensive process for some people. Whilst tuition and maintenance loans for university are covered at a low interest loan, there are further costs attendees face.

Choosing an apprenticeship not only gives you new knowledge but your C.V and professional work experience is bolstered, putting you in front of the job queue you may have been at the back of otherwise.

Your learning will be directly linked to your role, meaning you are on a constant personal development journey.

You do not have to pay fees

Fees can be a big deterrent for people when talking about education and career progression, and this again is for a number of reasons. Apprenticeships have got people from all walks of life in mind and offer a fair opportunity for job roles and experience.

Your apprenticeship, if you decide to choose one, will be funded by a third party organisation. This includes:

  • Your course fees
  • End Point Assessment (EPA)

If you were to come across any other issues financially, you may also be able to get bursary payments via your course provider.
